JEHOVAH OR KARMA?

quite recently my family and i have had some excellent news or received some wonderful surprises.

up to a year ago we would have given jehovah the thanks for all these "blessings" - which just goes to show what a load of baloney that was!

we haven't prayed since we left the borg a year ago this month and we're happier and healthier than we've ever been.

joseph was 30 when pharo gave him egypt,why because he prefigured jesus, david was 30 when god made him king,why because he prefigured jesus.why was jesus 30 when god gave him his ministry,because thats the age adam was when god gave him eve.. why would god put all of these scriptures in the bible if adam was only 25 or 26 when god made eve.

an age god decided a man was of age.because if jesus was 30 and adam was only 25 then the devil has a legal case that god is cheating, that jesus had longer to develop than adam.

if 2005 is right then count back 7 times from that date and you should come to the year the jews went into captivity.

I presume you mean by doing a JW style calculation which gives you 516 BC - so 2005 is wrong. But actually the JW calculation is wrong anyway. In fact applying the 7 times to anything other that the madness of Nebuchadnezzar is wrong. Actually the 7 times story of illness was originally about Nabonidus and his time away from Babylon at Teima. Should I go on?

webclocker, there have been a few new posters on here recently giving dates for the end. Take a lesson from a poster called proplog2 who, if I can remember, predicted the end sometime in 2002. I don't think he's posted much recently.

having been here for a few years, and corresponding privately with some of you i have noticed a lot of us have names that are from the bible.. so without giving too much away about yourselves :.

did your parents give you a name based on a bible character?.

did they do this while they were jws?.

The "tiring out" of chronology

much has been said on this forum about the reasons for the jw lack of growth in western lands.

numerous explanations have been put forward for this and for the future prospects of the organization.

but, above all else, i believe that there is one overriding reason behind it all.

If their idea of chronology had been right then Armageddon would have been and gone by now.

Instead they keep moving the goalposts. First it was people old enough to understand the events of 1914 who would still be alive at the end. Then it was children. Then it was babies. Now the generation of 70 - 80 years no longer applies. Now subtly they are hinting at 120 years for a generation, because an end-time cult needs a 'date' to keep the rank and file in order.

This chronology is no more. It has ceased to be. It is a stiff. Bereft of life. This is an ex-chronology.

Pete,

I think your right that people confuse the effects of ancient natural disasters with proof for bible myths.

I don't think the eruption of Thera around 1640 BC is any proof at all for the Exodus story, but I can see how events caused by that disaster made their way into the Exodus account. As Yeru sais,the tsunami caused by the eruption would have headed towards Egypt and Gaza, and the tributaries of the Nile would have receeded before the wave hit land. Geological surveys have shown that the ash fan went south and east and would have covered Egypt (plague of darkness?). I also think the passage in Exodus 13 about the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night are a pretty good description of an erupting volcano.

Will there be winter in the new system?

so much snow this winter, but it reminds me of the silly conversations we would have out in service about conditions in the new system.

this one guy, who thought he knew everything because he had been to bethel and had been pioneering since the 9th grade, was positive that there would be no winter in the new system.

his reasoning was that since the whole earth would be made into a paradise with perfect conditions, there would be no real cold places like russia or even central pennsylvania.

I think we only appreciate warm sunny days and fresh cold white winter days because of all the grey rainy days in between.

To live forever in the 'physical' world just doesn't make sense. Think of all the things that god would have to change. Like Pope said:

what it a ton of bricks fell on you in the new system? Would you die?

I think I read somewhere that if we did have the ability to live forever then the average life expectancy would still only be around 600 years, because of deaths by accidents (travel, work, DIY etc). Now granted accidents in a 'new system' would be different but would still happen. (What about falling off a ladder whilst picking all that fruit). So god would have to stop these accidents or at least protect us from them. But wouldn't that make us a bit blase about it, a bit like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day who keeps killing himself over and over because he knows he'll simply wake up again in the morning.

Looking at the larger picture of the universe then at the moment god seems to have to obey the laws of physics. The rotation of the Earth is gradually slowing, the moon is moving away from the Earth, the Sun is losing energy and will one day die, and the universe will eventually expand into a dark, lifeless empty void. These processes too would have to stop for life to exist forever on the Earth.

It was '74. Dennis Law didn't want to score against his old team, as it would have sent United into the second division so when the ball came to him he simply back heeled it. Unfortunately for him he back heeled it straight into the bottom corner of the net. He was distraught and United were relegated.

He played a couple of times for Scotland at the World Cup that year then retired.

Happy days.

for me it was the belief that all people who refuse to become jws are intrinsically bad.

if someone doesn't accept the "truth", naturally it's because "satan-the-devil" has hardened their hearts.

when you're a dub, you tend to ignore the ramifications of this.

The lie that Armageddon would come 'soon'.

The lie that the Watchtower Society was god's sole channel of communication and not a book publishing company.
